Our Story
Our roots stretch back more than 30 years, beginning when co‑founder Steve completed an apprenticeship with Marconi Communications Ltd. Over the next decade, he gained extensive hands‑on experience in telecommunications and emerging technologies. In 1994, Steve joined Philips BCS, where he played a key role in implementing the national code change on Sopho IS3000 PBXs across the UK. His work supported major organisations including the NHS, RBS, Cambridge, Nottingham, and Greenwich Universities, along with more than 200 blue‑chip companies.
In 2001, Steve launched his own company, becoming a trusted alternative provider for the IS3000 range. His client base grew to include BHP Billiton, NHS Princess Alexandra Trust, Kent Fire and Rescue, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. He also contributed to high‑profile engineering projects such as the construction of Sizewell B and the prototype development of the BAe 146‑300 at British Aerospace. This wealth of experience forms a core part of the expertise behind SM Unified Solutions today.
Building on that legacy, Steve partnered with Ryan, whose background brings a modern, technology‑driven edge to the business. After completing an IT apprenticeship in 2016 and working within the education sector, Ryan developed a strong foundation in IT and networking — and discovered a passion for technology that shaped his career. He later expanded into software development, creating SM Unified Solutions’ in‑house dashboard and ticketing system. Since founding the company, Ryan has completed extensive training and certifications with Grandstream, 2N, Yealink, Paxton, Mitel, 3CX, Verkada, and more.
Together, Steve and Ryan combine decades of telecoms expertise with modern IT, networking, and software innovation — forming a partnership that drives SM Unified Solutions forward.
